The Portland Arms – Cambridge

The Portland Arms – Cambridge

The Portland Arms is a traditional English pub serving fine real ales, speciality beers from around the world and home cooked food, including Barrel & Stone stone baked pizzas in a cosy, friendly setting.

There has been an Inn on the site since the 1880’s when it was called the Scales Hotel. The current building dates from the 1930’s and was designed by renowned architect Basil Oliver (1882-1948) who designed a number of “Improved Public Houses” for Barclay Perkins. Today Hayley and Steve Pellegrini are the licencees that will greet you as a guest and have been running The Portland since 2004.

The pub has four distinct areas; the Saloon bar is the heart of the pub with it’s real fire place, original wood panelling and open layout. This is also the main dining area for the pub where you can select from a range of great home-cooked pub food, stone baked pizzas and bar snacks.

The Public bar offers slate floors, a pool table, jukebox and Sky sports and leads on to the Portland’s Courtyard garden. The garden features an African hut with covered and heated seating areas and a brick built BBQ.

Lastly there is the Portland’s famous 200 capacity venue space, an essential part of the local live music scene and available to hire for any event or gathering.

There are also 3 letting rooms available for guests to stay the night for those who want to make the most of their visit to the wonderful city of Cambridge.
