The Fox & Hounds – Caversham

The Fox & Hounds in Caversham is a pub steeped in history. Originally opened as a Simonds Brewery pub, a brewer involved in the export of India pale ale to the British army in India in the early 1800’s, the pub became a popular drinking location based on the quality of its beer, a reputation it has not ever lost.

Fast-forward to 1960, and the pub played host to a certain Paul McCartney and John Lennon performing as ‘The Nerk Twins’, arranged through the then pub owner, Paul McCartney’s cousin.

In 2011, Kevin and Kerri Durkan took over the pub and have continued the pubs fine reputation for serving up fantastic beer and entertainment, with donated Beatles memorabilia from the Cavern Club and the Beatles Society on proud display.

In 2014, having successfully sold a wide variety of real ale, The Fox & Hounds was listed in The Good Beer Guide and in 2015 and 2016 has won Reading & Mid-Berkshire CAMRA’s Pub of the Year Award, a testament to the quality of the establishment and its beer.

Following a significant refurbishment in 2016, the Fox & Hounds added Barrel & Stone stone baked pizzas to their existing Sunday Roast food offering and has not looked back.

The pub is child and dog friendly, has free customer WiFi available and boasts a lovely beer garden, including an outdoor HD projector screen for live sports.
